GTHLA General Meeting – Feb. 6/10

Chair – Ray Henderson

Minutes: Jen Lovegrove (Screaming Unyons) (?)

1. Next meeting – Sunday, May 30 1pm. 3 meetings/year.

2. Fair Play –

- Tim Muirhead emailed his Fair Play Committee Update:

- Instituted new streamlined process to deal with on-ice issues

- Most games issue-free

- Suspension clarification: if suspended, you’re out for any team you’re registered with. Ie. if you have a 3-game suspension, it’s for three games with whatever team you play with, including Mingles or Summit. Also cannot sub for another team until the suspension is served.

- Adam raised issue of speeding up the FPC process – if you have a complaint, Captains or Assistant Captains should address it immediately following the game, get forms from timekeeper; this helps expedite the process

3. Operations

- After Summit, playoffs, then Springle – all scheduled

- Heather asked about status of sound system at Bill Bolton Arena. Paul Aucoin was working on it, no update at this time, but Ray will investigate.

- Scott from Boom concerned about travel games, that they become pickup games and are a waste of time, obligatory rather than important, because there aren’t enough players who go.

- Suggestions that teams can opt out of road games entirely in future schedules was met with debate, including issues of respect toward out-of-Toronto teams, and organizational action on the part of teams’ GMs.

4. Membership

- First Aid Clinic – Heather Scanlan – 26 people signed up and will hopefully help at Summit with First Aid. Program is now full.

- First Aid Clinic is annual

- Mingle – Heather Scanlan – Winter Mingle very successful, fun and lots of new people

- Springle – right after Summit, during playoffs.

- Volunteer Coordination – Deirdre Norma via email

- Emphasis on directing people rather than letting people be self-directed

- Hopes to have a new volunteer system in place for 2010/11 season

- She’s writing up list of jobs and refining points system for volunteering

- Heads of committees are to let Deirdre know what they need done from volunteers

5. Communications

- From Aaron Brophy via email:

- Two main focuses – newsletter and program

- Newsletter now uses new software program, more professional looking

7. Committee Development

- Next step after organizing committees is to create a steering committee or board with reps from each committee to direct where committees are going, to diversify management of the league.

- Sharing responsibility for league

- Need a rep from each committee
