  1. Tom opens meeting with a gift of coffee for members and a hand-out of administration structuring.
  2. Tom addressed table regarding the great participation that the league is having at meetings but the action follow-up is not so great. He would like to discuss how we could improve on this.

3. Tom goes over hand-out, states that the league which began with a couple of guys eight years ago has now grown into a league with a vision of national growth, potentially international which promotes not only hockey in a fun, safe, community, and Arts oriented way but can potentially branch out to hold other like minded events locally and beyond.

4. Stephen asks if we are going to have a separate general managers meeting which leads to a discussion of the problems with the way the committees are set up in that the progress of the committees has no way of being formally communicated to the rest of the team and/or the administration/GM committee. Tom decided to change the structuring of the committees so that the Administration Committee would essentially meet as the General Managers and that seven sub-committees would send an appointed rep to this meeting to give a progress report.

5. Tom goes over the progress of the Fair play committee. They have had their first meeting; they will have 5 members on the executive who will address weekly issues, mainly discipline issues. He reported that this is coming together well.

Discussion arises regarding the decision making authority granted to the Fair Play committee and Tom states that he has entrusted them to make decisions without his consent particularly due to the fact that these decisions need to be made quickly. Diana suggests that he outline to the Fair Play committee which decision making they should bring back to the GM/Admin committee before executing, particularly with changes to official league rules.

6. Tom gives update on Community (social) committee. The next fundraiser is at Mitzie’s Sister on Feb 25, hopefully word will go out soon as time is drawing near. Tom has had some difficulty working with the Parkdale Flames due to their lack of communication.

Richard asks if we have a rep. on the McCormick Arena Board of Directors which leads to Stephen nominating Mark Hickox who has expressed interest in the position. Richard suggests we vote on this at the next meeting and that he will personally contact Mark when he is back from his trip to discuss this.

Tom states that Mike Roach, the GM at McCormick has been great to work with; he adores us because we are nice and he is always very helpful. The skating club has also been great to work with.

Tom also adds that some day the community committee would like to organize a parade and the private club (Arts and Sweaters).

  1. Mike asks if Tom ever looked into holding the Exclaim Cup at York U rinks. This led to discussion of the pros and cons of holding the cup there and due to the enthusiasm shown by the group towards this venue, he said he would look into it for 2007. Tom states that right now the rinks are booked for 2006(McCormick, Bill Bolton and De la Salle)
  2. Tom begins discussion of the 4 new sub-committees that he had on the agenda for this meeting. Starting with Admissions, he is basically dealing with membership and creating a criteria for membership so that potential members know the qualities/ideals/expectations that the league has. The Admissions committee would need to formalize this. Some changes have been made: we will require deposits up front, teams in the exhibition league will need to play 8 exhibition games before qualifying for the league and next year there will be a third group of “new Teams” which will need to play 8 games before qualifying for the exhibition league.
  3. Tom states that there is an issue with ‘individuals’ wanting to join the league. The original vision of the Wanderers was to mingle existing league members with new individual members, but this is not really working out because existing members are not participating in the Wanderers games as much as he had hoped, so the existing members aren’t meeting up with the new members. He hopes more members will come out to p/u games. Stephen suggests that maybe we don’t do it. Richard suggest that the sub list be made more useful by a)giving more info on individual players profile and/or b) having a group e-mail request for subs which will work on a first response/first serve basis. Tom adds that we are working on a membership data base that will profile individual players. We can address this issue more thoroughly when the admissions sub-committee meets.
  4. Tom talks about the Finance sub-committee which needs to decide if we perhaps need to pay certain people to do specific things which volunteers can’t do. The finance committee will also be in charge of Sponsors, grants and commissions.
  5. -------asks if the league is set up as a legal entity i.e. Corporation/non-profit organization. Group discusses this issue and Ray suggests that his friend Dave Robertson will sit down and talk with Tom about this stuff. Anton is setting up a non-profit organization and will pass along any info to Tom. Mark volunteered to advise regarding incorporating vis-à-vis business and the pros and cons.
  6. Tom discusses sponsorship, and group discusses the implications of having alcohol sponsors. This is another topic/issue for Finance committee.
  7. Tom briefly discusses what the Communications and Operations sub-committees are responsible for then asks group for volunteer members for each of the four new sub-committees so they can commence action between now and the next admin/GM meeting.
  8. Richard reminds group that sub-committees will need ‘heads’ that will report back to the admin/GM group.
  9. James adds that we need to have another meeting but first we have to go back to our teams and recruit sub-committee volunteers and that at the next meeting we will have more people than are present in this room. Group agrees that this is a lot to digest and that they need to go back to their respective teams. Diana will remind newly formed sub-committees to meet fairly soon so that we can then schedule the next admin/GM meeting.
