Hey Folks,

Thanks again for your strong turnout and constructive discussion at our last General Managers meeting. Thanks to Brian Kobayakawa for writing out the minutes for us. If you see anything missing, please let us know.

It’s encouraging seeing our communication, inclusion, participation and collaborating growing! Also, it’s fantastic seeing a larger span of members taking responsibility and action on specific things. Some actions have already been accomplished since the meeting!

  1. Lynn Tougas (Screaming Unyons) can coordinate an in-house First Aid certification class for us. It’s $50 per pupil and the class takes 6 hours to complete. The next action is to discuss when would be the best time to do this. I’ll post the topic on the discussion board.

  1. The Gas Station Islanders are hosting a social event for after the No-Star game on Dec. 1st.

  1. David Golden (Mystery Men) took the carpet to build our replacement mock goalie. He ended up finding it more effective to purchase one at Canadian Tire. He’s currently painting our logo on the chest of the goalie.

  1. Priscilla Yu (Lookin’ to Score) is helping to coordinate game sheet collecting after games.

  1. The Fair Play Committee met last weekend. Details coming soon with minutes being posted at our blog, www.gthlablogspot.com.

1. League Principles - 5:43

Toms opening remarks , thank yous.

Tom talks about the leagues core principles reads league mission statement, and the league slogan: Community Hockey for Creative People. Everyone digs it.

2. Fair Play - 5:48

Tom explains the purpose of the committee is to maintain the leagues values on the ice. Explains the current executive, of whom Greg Simone and Heather Cunningham are present. Tom Goodwin, Mike Belitsky, Geoff McPeek, Greg Simone, Heather Cunningham, Mike Mazeika, Jeremy Harris, Priscilla Yu and Dan Hickox volunteer for a Fair Play executive meeting next Sunday. Tom talks about trying to find a way to identify consistent good or poor behaviour on the ice, making the Fair Play Committees duties something more than suspending jackasses. Potentially a Fair Play or Fair Player Award. Joe suggests acknowledging the positives of the fair play of the league, which is in agreement with what the current fair play executive has been working on.

gamereports@hockeyaa.net is a new e-mail address for sending comments to the Fair Play Executive. In the future this could move to an on-line form.

gthla.blogspot.com is the leagues blog space. The new website is up, www.hockeyaa.net, under construction, with a new more on that later.

3. Membership - 6:01

Ray explains the membership organizing thats going on. There are team and player Primer and Agreement forms on the blog site, separate forms for new teams and players and existing teams and players.

Tom and Ray explain the roster requirements for players on league teams that play in the tournament, with a goal to keep league teams from bringing different teams to the tournament. It’s highlighted that out of town players have to be considered. Decision is made to collect more input and come up with a flexible standard for GTHLA teams in the tournament.

Ray talks about getting team rosters up on the site, and outlines the playoff eligibility requirements (17 skaters, 2 goalies, unlimited females, 9 game minimum for most players, 4 players can be eligible after 4 games, and 1 player can be designated eligible with only one game played, if he or she was on the roster last season). See the website for exact requirements.

December 1st is established as a deadline for roster submissions.

Tom floats an idea of charging a no-show deposit from new teams to pay for make up games for a team whos opponent doesn’t show. Heather suggests some confusing idea about punishing no-show teams by taking away their hockey. No decision made on no-show plan.

Ray outlines a move to have a player on every team certified in First Aid. Everyone digs the idea, Lynn volunteers to check out costs to do a course at McCormick, or the YMCA.

Ray asks for more activity in reporting volunteer hours. Tom explains the need for this in creating a better understanding of whos doing what, and to clearer plan for compensating people for those hours. Report them at volunteerhours@hockeyaa.net

No-Star Games set for December 1st, and March 1st. A call is put out for teams to host a social events those nights.

Jeremy Harris mentions a November 29th fundraiser for Lukemia Research at the Concord Cafe, hosted by members of the Dufferin Groove and Sgt. Rock.

Tom tables an idea to establish a policy for fundraising at league social events. Some seem to feel that isnt necessary. Others dont.

As an aside, Tom reiterates his goal to have all the leagues finances on the website.

Dan Hickox volunteers to take on an idea of Toms to establish a full-time Daily Bread Food Bank box at McCormick.

4. Operations - 6:37

Problems with getting timekeepers at Ted Reeve are potentially addressed by Dan Hickox having volunteers in mind, and becoming timekeeping co-ordinator.

Teams are told that they are responsible to put their own stats game by game on the website.

Aaron Brophy suggests having each team single out a stats person to be responsible for putting stats on the site.

Extracurricular - Pete Gaffney explains GTHLAKids had 6 instructors, 21 kids today, (mostly 6 to 8 years old) and is going very well. Mike Mazeika explains his hockey school too. Petes going to buy pylons for the different camps and leave them at the rink.

And now, the moment everyone has been waiting for, the most exasperating thing on the agenda: WE NEED SOMEONE TO MAKE A CARPET GOALIE!?!? Dave volunteers to make the carpet goalie. Chuck Moglat is working on a robot defence-person. Im making a team of skaters out of play-doh out of spite for the fact the league is trying to replace its goalies with carpet.

Tom says check out the discussion board, www.hockeyaa.net/phpbb, apparently Facebook has plugins to link to outside discussion boards.

Chuck and Aaron say there are lots of people working on the anniversary tournament Program guide.

Kevin talks about a great idea of his of converting the rink to more renewable energy, with Bullfrog Power.

Pete mentions plans are underway for a used equipment swap and sale. Details to follow.

Dan asks for each team to make a CD for playing during the games.

Chuck asks about the possibility of having the entire season scheduled in the fall, Tom counters that the 2 months of scheduling at a time process is more flexible to players and teams who become unavailable and new teams wanting to integrate. Ray says he will try to do the rest of the season at once. We’ll have to leave it flexible to change beyond 2 months so we can accommodate schedule changes and new teams.

7:05 - meeting over.

Here are some immediate next actions we’re expecting in the near future…

1. Dan Hickox will be setting up a regular Daily Bread collection bin at McCormick Arena

2. Dufferin Groove and Sgt. Rock will be getting us details on their Leukemia fundraiser on November 29th at the Concord Café.

3. Gas Station Islanders will get us details on their hosted social event on Dec. 1st

4. We have to nail down a date and time for our First Aid certification class. Everyone should participate in this topic on the discussion board to reach a conclusion on the best date and time.

5. Team and Player agreements have to be sent out and sent back to gthlamembership@hockeyaa.net

6. Comprehensive Team rosters have to be submitted before Dec. 1st to gthlamembership@hockeyaa.net

7. Construct a new rule on GTHLA team roster regulations for the Hockey Summit. Everyone should participate in this topic on the discussion board.

Thanks Again,

Tom Goodwin
